CULINARY BIKE TOUR
This route takes place in the Valley, between the cliffs of the Sierra de Cantabria and Montaña Alavesa in the North and the Ranges of Cameros and La Demanda in the South.
In the middle; The Rioja. Infinite vineyards, designer wineries, monumental villas saturated with history and the backbone of the Ebro in the center feeding everything.
This options of the route, for trekking or gravel bikes articulate most of their kilometers along the small roads, tracks and paths, expanding like a mesh throughout the Ebro basin.
The route can be summarized as an uninterrupted sequence of villas, wineries, vineyards and meanders that claim all of them and at all times their indisputable uniqueness.

CULINARY BIKE TOUR mean ?
We label some of our Packs this way when we add Gastronomic Experiences to them, substituting the standard dinner normally included in the hotel´s half-board regime.
The catering establishments -usually different from the hotel where we stay- have been carefully chosen to complement the sporting aspect of the route with gastronomic proposals similar in all aspects to those we choose for our LUXURY category Tours.
Standar Option 4 Stages
Distance: 218 km Unevenness: 2.810 m
SLOW Option 4 Stages
Distance: 122 km Unevenness: 1.390 m
ElVillar - Dolmen de la Hechicera
Stage A: Logroño - Logroño
Distance: 54 km Unevenness: 525 m
We begin the day taking altitude over Logroño among the facilities of Bodegas Campoviejo. Already immersed in the first "sea of vineyards" of the day, we arrive at Fuenmayor along the old road that connects this town with Logroño.
After a comfortable section between the monumental towns of Fuenmayor and Navarrete, we cut the Camino de Santiago and without a clear transition we enter the Iregua lands where the 2nd part of the stage takes place. Vineyards now make it possible to intersperse other crops and activities in the landscape and stop monopolizing everything. Thus we enter what we sometimes call Iregua Valley, a place with reminiscence of the American National Parks. The vertical cliffs of Peña Bajenza and the Portal de Cameros give the final character to the stage.
Once we have reached the banks of the Iregua, the thousand-year-old Roman path which linked Soria with Logroño will guide us back to the end of the stage in the capital of La Rioja.
SLOW Option: Logroño - Logroño
Distance: 39 km Unevenness: 280 m
If we opt for the SLOW option of the route, the essential difference will be that we will eliminate the initial 17 kilometers between Logroño and Navarrete and replace them with the section of the Camino de Santiago that joins these points.
The cliffs of Portal de Cameros close the Iregua Valley to the South. The Village of Islallana will be the return point in the circular stage A of Fuentes del Vino Laguardia.
Iregua Valley
In the first moments of the day we share a track with the popular Eroica hispania route.
Participants of La Rioja Bike Race 2021 crossing the Iregua Valley .
Singular Vineyard of Vínicola Real - 200 Monges caves in the area "Los Valles" sheltered by the Sierra de Cameros.
Long sections of lonely road between Logroño and Fuenmayor.
Sea of vineyards Logroño in its ambience.
Up
Stage B: Logroño - Laguardia
Distance: 47 km Unevenness: 550 m
SLOW Option: Logroño - Laguardia
Distance: 32 km Unevenness: 435 m
Today's stage zigzags upriver to the rhythm of the meanders of the Ebro and the hard-working vineyards lined up on its stony soils.
The Terroir of Viña Lanciano stands out for its exaggerated curvature on the map, one of the "singular wines" of Bodegas LAN. It shares geography with the medieval -perhaps Roman- bridge of Mantilbe, a construction that crossed the Ebro at this point -its current state makes its function impossible.
We change shore in Lapuebla de Labarca, a place name that tells us about the boat that for years was located in the place performing the functions that the bridge that replaces it does now. Leaving the last streets of the village behind, we headed back to the banks of the river and approached a long section (12 km) of powerful isolation that ends "abruptly" with the sudden appearance of the Villa de Elciego and and the Guggenheim-style wine cellar of Marqués de Riscal, one of the first wineries of La Rioja, well worth a visit.
In the background, on a higher plane and deviated from the river basin, the end of the stage can be seen imposingly in the form of the "Walled town of Laguardia".
In the vicinity of Logroño the Ebro is already a lonely river.
Autumn atmosphere in the surroundings of El Cortijo.
Riding through the "singular" vineyard Viña Lanciano, LAN wineries.
In the same place, old Roman / medieval bridge? of Mantilbe over the Ebro.
Demanding ramps in the tarmacs among vineyards of Marqués de Riscal.
Carralogroño dry lagoon in the vicinity of Laguardia. In the background the Cantabria Range.
Spectacular end of the stage in the Laguardia watchtower. In the foreground, Bodegas de Marqués de Riscal at Elciego.
Up
Stage C: Laguardia - Laguardia
Distance: 66 km Unevenness: 810 m
SLOW Option: Laguardia - Laguardia
Distance: 30 km Unevenness: 505 m
This circular stage, beginning in LAGUARDIA extends well to the west the geographical area covered by FUENTES DEL VINO LAGUARDIA.
A quick descent looking for the bridge that connects the winery willages of Elciego and Cenicero deposits us at the bottom of the basin. If we wanted to "christen" today's itinerary name, it is very likely that the name chosen was "Viñedos del Ebro". Not surprisingly, for more than 40 kilometers (unless we choose the SLOW option) the curves of the meanders of the Ebro will also be ours.
We will "pivot" over the Castle of Davalillo -authentic lighthouse of the stage- first along the South bank to the medieval town of Briones, and after crossing the river again in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, we will take the North bank to Baños de Ebro crossing one of the most uninhabited places in the basin.
In our progress we will have left behind a practically countless number of vineyards, wineries, huts and the Vivanco de Briones Museum, one of the largest in the world in terms of wine-related themes.
From Baños de Ebro, the track moves away from the river, ascending towards the slopes of the Cantabria Range, passing through the villages of Villabuena de Alava, Leza and Páganos, returning to the walled watchtower of LAGUARDIA.
The Ebro river will be our companion for much of today's stage.
Chozos, characteristic element of the Riojan vineyard. Normally of simple construction and sometimes more spectacular, like this one in the La Veguilla vineyards.
Davalillo Castle, impressive watchtower over the territory of La Rioja. Among its main functions was to watch over the ford that the Ebro river hides at that point.
Replenishing energy and water San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
Imposing monumental complex Church / Castle and medieval bridge in San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
One last effort to ascend to the watchtower of Laguardia.
End of the day at the Lakes complex in Laguardia.
Up
Stage D: Laguardia - Logroño
Distance: 50 km Unevenness: 925 m
SLOW Option: Laguardia - Logroño
Distance: 21 km Unevenness: 170 m
The slopes of the Cantabria Range monopolize the territory that houses practically all the kilometers of this last stage that runs almost entirely through the Rioja Alavesa.
Small terraced vineyards "terroirs" adapt to the complicated morphology generated by the ravines that descend from the mountains. From this complexity and the multitude of microclimates that this generates, the possibility of "playing" with the modern concept of singular and author wines that characterize current oenology arises.
La Huesera, La Hechicera and El Encinar, the 3 dolmens that almost unintentionally link the track, reinforce backwards in time the historical sequence that began in the architectural contemporaneity of modern wineries and continued in the homogeneous medieval profile present in all the villages that we pass through. Elvillar, Kripán, Vinasperi, Iekora, the monumental Labraza... Demanding sequence of village-valley village-valley that gives the stage a PLUS in sporting terms over the previous stages of FUENTES DEL VINO LAGUARDIA. In our favor is the detail that all the valleys we cross allow us to "escape" -if the forces falter- in a southerly direction and downhill, towards the end of the stage in LOGROÑO.
Dolmen de La Hechicera in the vicinity of Elvillar, a good place to rest in "eternity".
During today's stage the Cantabria Range is the undisputed protagonist.
Dolmen El Encinar the last of the series of 3 dolmens that are visited in today's stage.
A large part of today's stage takes place in the lands of Navarra. On the horizon, The Sleeping Lion.
Vineyards of Rioja Alavesa.
In the walled town of Labraza the route leaves the slopes of the Cantabria Range and descends towards the Ebro basin. We leave behind the sections with slopes that have given this last stage a somewhat more demanding character.
End of stage, end of route and end of day. We descend towards Logroño and as always, vineyards.

If you have doubths, do not hesitate and use some of the buttons below, we respond quickly.
In this section you can see the Gastronomic Experiences available for this Pack.
Since one Gastronomic Experience per stage is included in the price of the Pack, the fact that the number of those that we present here is greater than the number of stages in the Pack indicates that if you wish you can select which of them to include in your Pack.
It is also possible that on certain dates or days of the week some of the establishments may be closed or perhaps full, so having more alternatives guarantees the availability of reservations.
TONDELUNA is a modern, informal and fun place that has prepared a FUENTES del VINO menu to introduce cyclists of the route to some of the secrets of modern Riojan cuisine.
LA GALERÍA is a space with minimalist architecture whose walls periodically house traveling exhibitions of painting artists, filling the space with art and color.
The menu FUENTES del VINO menu consists of a tasting always adapted to the season in which we visit the city, and we leave it in the hands of José Félix Rodríguez, a cook who trained at the Santo Domingo School and then continued to cultivate and develop his art in houses like Arzak, Martín Berasategui, Koldo Royo, Aitor Basabe and Ferrán Adriá.
Palacio de Viana, 17th century, Nobility and Tradition... uninterrupted winemaking tradition since 1690, absolute winner by public votes in the Best Of awards People´s Choice Award 2.023, and production of their own wines in their cellar/calao, a space that will also be our restaurant....
We have not needed more, the curriculum shown in the previous paragraph has been enough to make us incorporate without any doubt its owner in the list of Gastronomic Experiences that shape FUENTES del VINO - LAGUARDIA.
The rest... is not history, is future, and it is waiting for you.
Embedded between the stones of the wall is the "cave" that we have chosen for one of our Gastronomic Experiences in LAGUARDIA.
We think that it should have been called "Pirates Cave" more than wolves cave -if you visit it you will understand why- but if in 1933 when it was inaugurated they decided that it should be "Wolves ", of wolves remains.
The forcefulness of the opinion of some of our clients; in the style of "the best restaurant of our trip through La Rioja" reaffirms our belief that sometimes there are factors that escape the "stars" and "suns" of the dominant gastronomic classifications.
With a warm environment, one of those that introduces you to another time, the "only drawback" that we can cite is its authentic cave format, something that makes it difficult for us to accommodate our bikers when they make up a large group. For the rest, in terms of restoration, the watchword is listen to the "pirates" who serve us and let ourselves be carried away by their recommendations; Local products in the dishes, paired with the best possible selection of wines from always local wineries.
Located inside the walls of the town, the terms Solera and Tradition are those that define the Gastronomic Experience CALAO BIAZTERI FUENTES del VINO - LAGUARDIA.
In your hands -and perhaps in those of the weather- will remain the decision of where to experience the Tasting Menu expressly conceptualized for this proposal. You will therefore have to decide if you descend to the naturally thermoregulated grotte/cellar currently converted into a dining room, or if you are more attracted to the outdoor terrace.
In either case on the plates; Tasting of Traditional Riojan food of the season paired by the glass with wines made in the wineries located outside the walls of the Villa of LAGUARDIA.
A Gastronomic Experience conscientiously guided at all times by the Staff of CALAO BIAZTERI.
